Is it worth it?

Beach cleaning is one way that you can help reduce the plastic pollution problem – and have some fun at the same time.  Ocean currents are incredible and while some will spiral towards the centre of the oceans, others will naturally brings plastic pollution onto shore.  This is a great opportunity to get stuck in and do what you can.  Does it make a difference? In the grand scheme of things we are unlikely to pick up the 8 million tonnes of plastic waste that gets into the ocean, but it is a fantastic way to engage local communities and every little bit helps

How do I get involved?

There is nothing wrong with just picking up plastic pollution when you see it if you are walking along the beach and we would encourage that.  If you find a plastic bag use that to collect other pieces.

However, it is a lot more fun and often productive if you be a part of an organised beach clean.  Some organisations provide you with the information you need to put together your own, while others invite you along.  There are a lot of organisation that do this around the world so get onto google to find out what’s near you, look them up and get involved.  If you’re a diver you may even be able to join an underwater clean-up!  Here are a couple of links to get you started.
