Couple undertake channel endurance challenge!
Lily and Teddy Fletcher will have between the 20th and 30th August to attempt the “ultimate endurance challenge” – swimming the English Channel. Lily, 27, management consultant and Teddy, 32, surgeon have been in training for a year and a half to prepare for the mental, physical and physiological battle. They will have to fight hypothermia (no wetsuits allowed), seasickness, night swimming, stinging jelly fish, and ultimately – crossing one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world!
It is a 28-30 mile route across the channel to Cap Gris Nez in France. If successful, they will be the 30th successful British 2-person crossing, and 65th global 2-person crossing. After watching Blue Planet II and having an unpleasant first-hand experience of swimming through globules of plastic rubbish in the oceans, Lily and Teddy realised they had to raise awareness of this detrimental problem. As a result, they are supporting Plastic Oceans UK.
